I will suggest getting some knowledge from all fronts BUT special izing in an area. Certs mean nothing without experience.
Having said that, take a look at the ads for jobs that you want. Are they asking for certs? Then yes, having certs will help. This below is true only if you want to drive in direction of Solaris. Also, Alsways work on operating system which allows you to get more detail information about … how OS works, what is kernel and what role it plays… how internal parts of OS functions… how services are performing within OS… how can one optimize performance on OS… and much much more…..

Besides Windows you have Unix and Linux as well.
Like you have been advised in this discussion that it is better that you first try to get som e experience in both these areas first. I dunno abt Redhat but Sun Recomme nds an yrs experience first in Solaris Administration before writing the ce rtification exam. So it is better you opt for getting some experience firs t in both these fields and then you can go for the certifications. Good Luck Regards.
